Question 1

Does it hurt?

Accepted Answer

Patient comfort has not been clinically tested. GumGauge is being designed around a bite-held mouthpiece rather than point-by-point probing, but it is too early to say how it will feel.

Question 2

How long does the scan take?

Accepted Answer

About one minute is a design target, not a measured result. Actual timing will require working hardware and clinical validation.

Question 3

Is it safe?

Accepted Answer

Safety has not been established. No GumGauge hardware has been built or tested. The current design does not call for ionizing radiation, and any future device would need appropriate safety, biocompatibility, electrical, and clinical testing before use.

Question 4

Will my insurance cover it?

Accepted Answer

No coverage or reimbursement determination has been made. Coverage varies by plan, service, and practice, so patients would need to ask their dental practice and insurer if GumGauge becomes available.

Question 5

What if my results show a problem?

Accepted Answer

A licensed dental professional would review any periodontal findings and discuss appropriate care. The planned reports are intended for clinician review, not self-diagnosis.

Question 6

Do I need to do anything differently to prepare?

Accepted Answer

GumGauge is not available for clinical use, so there are no patient preparation instructions today. A future dental practice would provide instructions if the device is cleared and offered.

Question 7

Can I see my own results?

Accepted Answer

The planned software includes clinician-reviewed visual reports. Current public examples use sample data and are not patient records or clinical assessments.

Question 8

Is GumGauge available at my dentist today?

Accepted Answer

No. GumGauge is not available for clinical use and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. No hardware has been built, and there are no current clinical pilots or patients using it.
